    Women who inspire me

When life throws me a curveball, when I am frustrated and angry, or when I simply feel a need for a lift to rise me from the pit of low self esteem, ennui, and lethargy and inspire me to reach for the stars, I look up to some amazing women I know. I am lucky to have great girlfriends I can call on anytime of day or night for advice and support, but there are some women I know online whose writings and hard work continue to be of inspiration to me.
From the very beginning that Robert got involved in the world of blogging, he introduced me to the writings of Halley Suitt. Halley’s sense of humor, great writing skills and sharp business acumen combined with her love for geeks and technology, made her an instant winner in my book. There are times when I still go back to read her humorous tales of struggling single Mom or her tips on how to be an Alpha male. If I had to choose one single woman who has inspired me to blog, it has to be Halley. So if you wish I had never started blogging, you can blame Halley for that.
Throughout my conference career though, I’ve been lucky to meet some very smart and accomplished women such as Molly Holzschlag, Dori Smith, Michele Leroux Bustamante, Julie Lerman and Deborah Kurata, Nicole Simon, Sarah Blow, Sanaz Ahari and Rachel Clarke. These women work in the frontlines of research, development and technology and I can’t wait to interview them and their comrades in arms in the Digital Diva Show I am working on.
Through blogging I have also met great many female bloggers, who are shakers and movers in the world of technology, blogs and beyond. For daily inspiration on life, science and technology, I need a little bit of Liz lawley, Beth Grigg, Julie Leung, DNW, Nancy Folsom, Nancy White, and Kim Sacha among many others. I certainly have to get them on the show as well. Of course my day would not be complete if I haven’t read Jen and Helen and Ponzi. Their candour and sense of humor make every day a better day.
I work with some brilliant women as well. Valerie, Linda, Sandy, Kathrine, Melanie and Min Li make coming to work at PodTech a joy every day. I also work with Teresa Valdez Klein on planning Blog Business Summit and can’t wait for the conference to begin.
Speaking of conferences, I had a chance to meet Grace Davis, Elisa, Jory and Lisa and would love to have them on the show. Me thinks, I can learn a thing or two about conference planning from them.
Speaking of women who inspire me, my mom is having surgery today. She is not a geek or a technologist and she doesn't even have a blog. In fact she has been a homemaker all her life, but I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for her and I can’t imagine my life without her. So please put a good word with the medicine Buddha or whomever you pray to for her or just send some positive thoughts and energy her way. It will be much appreciated and of course please nominate women you want to see on the show. Thank you!

    Maryam,

I am flattered that you would think that highly of me.  You are a remarkable woman in your own right and I love reading your blog from time to time.  If you and Robert happen to be in the UK and want to do a video of some of the London Girl Blog Scene then feel free to give me a shout.  (I'm not sure if it fits into your readership area but you are more than welcome)

Give me a shout sometime and I would be happy to catch up.

    Dori,

Robert and I were just talking about this. We need to set up an interview time with you. You are the one who started Robert blogging so you have a lot to answer for :)

Just say the word, and I'm there (hey, I've got a brand-new book to flog...)

I hope your mom came through her surgery with flying colors and is doing fine!  Thanks for the nice words -- that was really a nice thing to read after a relatively crummy day. :)
