Meeting Sue Polinsky and the ConvergeSouth Experience

When Ben was driving us over to Sue Polinsky's house from the airport, he tried to tell us a little bit about our host; Sue is the Tech Mama of Greensboro, he said. She knows everything and everyone in technology in this area. Meeting Sue, I know now how she personifies "Tech Mama" so well. We walked in to an immaculate house and were greeted warmly by Sue and Her husband David. The kitchen table was covered with the most colorful spreads of veggies and dips and crackers. She had enough food to serve an army. I immediately felt as if I had walked in to my Mom's house. She is always trying to feed you. After a long flight, it felt so nice to be welcome to such a warm home. Once we got to talking though, I realized were at the presence of a geek goddess. Sue has been around the web design and development community since the very beginning. She can tell you what the @ sign in the email means and why they picked it. She was at that meeting :)

She has also put together a great conference, ConvergeSouth that Robert and I are proud to be speaking at. Tonight we experienced the greatness of ConvergeSouth and the warmth of Southern hospitality at the preconference barbecue. David Hoggard's barbecue party was an experience I'll never forget. I swear I have never tasted a barbecue so delicious and a banana pudding so sweet. We met some really cool people, like Pam of the Pam's house Blend, Jill of Living with Geeks, and Matt Gross as well as the blogging poet, Billy Jones. We were even honored by receiving the key to the city of Greensboro by Sandy Carmany, Greensboro city council woman.

Sometimes I have to pinch myself to believe I am not just dreaming.

    Crystal,

That's funny. I am from the middle east, so I do miss homecooking from there. Although we had baked beans, and salad and all was awesome. Most importantly the people were just sweet.

    Rebbeca,

The conference was great. We had a blast. Thanks!

You are making me home sick for some good BBQ and banana pudding! Did you have some good potato salad, bake beans and coleslaw? Living in the Middle East, I do miss home cooking sometimes. :-) Enjoy the southern hospitality, it is the best in the world! :-)
